Video Presentation
Working alongside a group of young Indigenous women in the Peruvian Amazon region of Junín, this project has sought to understand and make visible the work that these women have undertaken as community members and future leaders. Through participatory work, we have been working to support their ambitions, expand further their networks, enhance their visibility and probe their spheres of influence in the context of environmental, social, cultural and political risk.
Publication
The Women of Influence project team is delighted to announce the publication of our special issue, for New Area Studies, of a collection of works on 'Indigeneity, Community and Participatory Practice: Methods, Concepts and Perspectives from the Global South'.
Our own article, 'Women of Influence: interdisciplinary participatory approaches to understanding female leadership in the Peruvian Amazon' reflects on the experiences of working with a group of young women from Junin, Peru, and in particular on their role as community participants, as female leaders, as change-makers, and as active members of OMIAASEC.
