Director’s Note

“It seems like we live in paradise, but in my community the water supply was deprioritized. We have to provide many neighbouring villages with water purely because they pay to use our spring. And while we often have no water, the neighbouring villages, who we provide water to, have so many car washes. Seeing how badly they are misusing and wasting our water without being aware of the problems we are going through, I began to wonder, “How will things be two or three years from now?” Sometimes I worry that younger generations will question us for our actions, because we are not looking out for their futures. Water is like life: while we nurture it, it survives; if we don't, it sleeps the eternal sleep.”

  • We must take care of the spring, from where we consume the water. We are going to fight for water. What time do we have water? Only in the morning. The authorities have not prioritized the future. Who uses the most water? Those who run the car washes. We have to take care of the spring. How many can speak our language? Most of you are Ashaninka. Your mothers are wise, they know about plants, they know but we don't give that enough importance, even though they are part of our culture."

  • “The springs come from the forests. This is why we need to protect the forests.”
